LOCATION: Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service Training Centre, West Way, Euxton, Chorley, PR7 6DH

SALARY: Scale 2, Spinal Column Points 5-6, £11,383 - £11,611

WORKING ARRANGEMENTS: Part-time post, 21 hours per week, Monday – Friday (Mornings - 8:00am to 12:12pm), flexitime working arrangements

The role of a Handy Person/Gardener is to provide the Training Centre with general maintenance and gardening duties to ensure the upkeep of the grounds and gardens, and other duties that support the effective delivery of Fire Service training.

The successful applicant will be joining a well-established team of support staff in a busy and varied environment.

As the handy person/gardener you will be primarily responsible for

• Daily checks on all staff/public areas including. showers, toilets, offices, classrooms etc. and daily re-stocking and ordering of all refreshments, Stock recording of all fire ground necessities such as OSB boards, fuel, pallets etc and general stores items including cleaning products, PPE, maintenance items etc. (please note candidates must have basic IT skills to enable completion of records and ordering of goods via online stores portals (Training will be provided))
• Labouring, cleaning, basic repairs and maintenance duties. (Applicants must have a general understanding of Health and Safety)
• Cleanliness of grounds, sweeping roads, emptying waste bins, clearing leaves, and disposal of rubbish, clearing drains and ditches in excess of that dealt with by Local Authority.
• Pruning, trimming and lopping of shrubs and trees etc., including the use of motorised equipment. Care and cleaning of grounds maintenance tools.

Personal protective equipment will be provided and there will also be a requirement to operate machinery including a Telehandler, JCB and Forklift Truck for which relevant training and qualifications will be provided.

Applicants must be willing to work outdoors for sustained periods of time including inclement weather and be aware of the physical nature of this work.

Whilst a Category ‘B’ driving licence is essential, a desirable criteria element attached to the role is LGV & Fork lift truck licences. The successful applicant will be expected to gain these qualifications post appointment and this will be supported by the service.
